Goodreads lets you rate your own book! Yea!
I wrote it, I love it!

But no ones cares how you feel about your own baby, so let's use this space for a little history.

I wrote these stories more than a decade ago. There weren't many dragon books then, except Pern. Don't like scaleless dragons with bug eyes, so I wrote my own stories.

The premise was unique at the time. Write a tale about how dragons see the world and explain their natural behavior when humans aren't present. All before "How To Train Your Dragon" got big! Now there are lots of similar books, including "A Natural History of Dragons".

I finished them before ebooks took off. The only way to publish things so short was to send them to magazines, and there weren't that many magazines looking for dragon POV. Competition was stiff, and mags don't give royalties, so these remained hidden away in a PC folder for years.

Now my stories aren't so unique anymore, but they still feel fresh. Fira is modeled after early wingless dragons. In early mythology, dragons were just fire-breathing snakes. She nests like a crocodile, using compost to warm her eggs.

Gaar is presumed warm-blooded, and lives like a giant sea-bird, scooping sharks and sea-mammals out of the water to feed. Until whalers take his mate.

Too short for the Short Story genre, my old tales can now spread their wings in the new Flash Fiction movement. Hopefully my debut ebook will please dragon lovers for years to come.

Technical:
The first edition of "the Clutch" has two line breaks in the text. The first is intentional, as the point of view shifts. The second line break was inserted by Smashwords' ebook converter. I am working to find a solution to this common error.
The first edition of "Shoreline" has one misused word. Sought is spelled sot. I amended this so it won't appear in future publications.
Buyers will receive updates when released for free.

Cover:
Since we put credits at the end of short works, readers won't see credits in samples. The cover was designed by Mai Keyes (me). Dragon is from madetobeunique.com. Ocean background is from fairiegoodmother.deviantart.com.

Thanks for reading!

Mai Keyes is a quirky gryphon who sees everything from an unusual angle. She is one of two primary authors at Gryphon Scribes™.
She writes many genres in many styles, though she favors skewed perspectives, such as fractured fairy-tales, villains' point of views, or characters of mixed race/species.
