First artwork published professionnally: "Artificial Limb" in Gothic Blimp Works. First comic work: "Eyes of Mars" and cover art for fanzine Graphic Showcase in 1967. First professional assignment for Charlton Comics in 1969 ("Battle of Shiraz" in Flash Gordon #18). In 1969 Kaluta began work on Carson of Venus, which appears as a back-up feature in Korak, Son of Tarzan (DC). Recipient of the Shazam Award for Outstanding New Talent in 1971. Began his run on The Shadow (DC) in 1973. Start doing poster work for Christopher Enterprises in 1975. Co-founder of the Studio with Barry Windsor-Smith, Bernie Wrightson and Jeffrey Jones in 1976. Awarded Comic-Con Inkpot in 1977 (San Diego Comic Con). The oversize "Studio" book is published by Dragon's Dream in 1979, featuring art by Kaluta, Wrightson, Windsor-Smith and Jones. Co-creator (sets and costume designer)with playwright Elaine Lee of Starstruck, a humorous and baroque SF spoof Space Opera, first adapted as a play off-off broadway in 1980. Recipient of an award from the Art Director's Club for his work on Philip Jose Farmer's The Grand Adventure in 1984 Starstruck is published by Marvel Comics in 1985. Pencilled Shadow Graphic Novel ("Hitler's Astrologer") in 1988. Illustrated Thea von Harbou's novel "Metropolis" in 1988. Cover artist for four volumes of Harry Harrison's "Bill the Galactic Hero", published by Avon (1989-1991). Cover artist for Glen Danzig's instrumental album "Black Aria", released in 1992. Produced 12 paintings for the 1994 J.R.R. Tolkien Calendar. Kaluta's first cover for The Books of Magic released in 1996. Received the Spectrum Silver Award for Excellence in the comics category for the cover for issue #8 of The Victorian comic book (2001). Recipient of the Spectrum Grand Master Award in 2003.
