This volume opens with an episode with Kyoya as the main character, so I knew it was going to be a good one. Despite how silly it was at the beginning, it actually added a lot of depth to Kyoya's character, and the relationships between the host club members.
The next few episodes were about Hunny and his past, with his younger brother being an important supporting character. I really liked the Hanninozuka brothers, but I feel really bad for Chika. Hunny seems to have been very similar to him when he was Chika's age, but since then he's accepted who he is, and sees much happier. Hopefully Chika will be more open and accepting about himself and others soon. Mori's younger brother also makes an appearance, but I didn't really like him. He seemed super mean! I know he has good intentions, but it's no wonder that Chika ended up the way he did if his only friend is so awful to him.
The last episode was about the Zuka club. I'm going to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the Zuka club. Their episodes aren't my favorite. Still, I really enjoyed it, and I found it quite funny. I especially liked their fans. Their like host club customers on steroids! It makes Renge and the other fangirls seem almost normal and sane! And that's an accomplishment if I've ever head of one.
The extra episode about the twins was different from what I expected. I thought it was going to be heartwarming, and make the twins out to be more sympathetic. It really didn't. (Don't worry, I still love them though.) It did, however, cast some light on their childhood, and begins to explain how they ended up so messed up. I'm sure they were genetically predisposed to being devious, but their messed up childhood certainly didn't help.
As with every volume in this series, there is so much character development. The characters already seem so real, and there's still so much more development to come! I love these characters so much, and reading about them makes me so happy!
On a kind of unrelated note, but not really since it was in this volume, I kind of liked the Love Egoist episode at the end of the volume. I liked it in a guilty-pleasure sort of way. It was cheesy, ridiculous, and the age-gap was kind of off-putting, but in a kind of cute way! I don't think I would read an entire Love Egoist series, but reading an episode here and there is very enjoyable.
I love these books <3
And I loved the extras at the end! (Gotta love the Hitachiin twins :D)
